[mpich-discuss] Do I need to run "mpd" every time before I execute "mpiexec"?

That's not possible, unless there are other options you are passing to configure that you didn't mention here.

With mpich-3.0.4, --with-pm=hydra is default.  So whether you pass it or not, there's no difference in the build.
